On 13th February 2018, the University of Nairobi Kisumu Campus hosted a well-attended afternoon public lecture on the relevance of artificial intelligence on the legal profession. Ms Alice Namuli-Blazevic, the Vice President of the Uganda Law Society and a legal practitioner, ably delivered her lecture in the 300 plus-seater auditorium at the Kisumu Campus. The exciting and interactive lecture stressed the need for legal practitioners, including law students, to take advantage of emerging ICT-related opportunities to advance their practice areas beyond the traditional fields of practicing law. The lecture was organized by the East Africa Law Society (EALS), Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Kisumu Chapter, and the University of Nairobi Kisumu Campus. Participants at the lecture included University of Nairobi teaching and support staff led by the Kisumu Campus Director, Dr Vincent Machuki, and the Kisumu Campus School of Law Associate Dean, Mr Okech Owiti; legal practitioners from Kisumu and neighbouring counties led by the LSK President, Mr Isaack Okero, and the LSK Kisumu Chapter Chairman, Mr Sam Onyango; representatives of the EALS including the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Hanningtone Amol; and law students from University of Nairobi Kisumu Campus and Kisii University.
